The objective is to promote the use of rail in the supply chain to achieve more sustainable freight transport.

Railway freight transport

Rail freight transport in Spain represents 4% of the total. This proportion is well below the European average, which stands at 19%. With the European Union’s commitment to reduce environmental pollution and promote more sustainable transport, it has set a target of 30% by 2030 and 50% by 2050 for journeys of more than 300km.

This mode of transport is limited to the rail infrastructures installed throughout the continent, so the routes and journeys are limited to these.

Advantages of rail transport

  • Unaffected by weather conditions
  • Safe transportation
  • Low carbon footprint
  • Possibility of unloading inside a warehouse
  • More stable rates
  • High speed
  • Economical
  • Heavy/bulky cargo transportation

«Freight belongs on rail» campaign

The mission is to raise awareness among public institutions, the business sector and society in general of the importance of using the train more for freight transport.

This campaign, initiated in Germany by DB Cargo, was born in the framework of the European Year of the Railway in 2021. The initiative aims to increase the volume of goods transported by rail, which as mentioned above is currently only 4% of the total, in order for Spain to achieve its climate targets.

Why did we join the «Freight belongs on rail» campaign?

Helping transport to improve its sustainability indexes is a challenge that is part of Navlandis’ DNA, as it was born with this objective in mind and managed to innovate in the freight transport sector with Zbox, its foldable container that saves space and optimizes the transport of containers when they are empty.

We wanted to join the ‘Freight belongs on rail’ movement, supported in Spain by important companies and entities such as Logitren, Adif, or the Generalitat Valenciana, since intelligently combining rail and road transport is a way to get closer to the climate goals set by the 2030 Agenda.

The Zbox foldable container

In the words of our CEO, Miguel Navalon, the container plays a fundamental role in the intermodal transport of goods, and at Navlandis we are convinced of the value that the foldable container can bring to the efficiency and optimization of the logistics chain.

Our foldable container is designed and thought to generate savings in different aspects. Here you can learn more about the benefits. Being part of a proposal that works to achieve a more sustainable means of transportation, fits in the mission we have through our Zbox folding container.

At Navlandis we are in favor of taking advantage of the existing rail freight system in Spain to offer companies and society as a whole sustainable supply services that take goods and freight transport to where they are needed. The company supports investment in automation and digitalization, also in rail infrastructure, to streamline the entire logistics chain, from booking to final delivery.
